Stitching together hope in Harlem

North America Territory Sales Representative Jessica Goadec partnered with Perkins Eastman to help transform a shared space at Cecil Ivory House.

This is a transitional housing program in Harlem, New York, into a welcoming and uplifting environment for its residents.

The project focused on creating a space that not only feels safe and functional but also inspiring—somewhere residents can relax, connect, and feel a renewed sense of comfort.

At the heart of the initiative was collaboration. Jessica worked closely with Momentum Textiles to source a selection of vibrant, high-quality fabrics that would bring energy and personality into the space. These materials were then used during a Pillow Talk Event, where members of the Perkins Eastman team came together to design and create handmade pillows. The event itself became an opportunity for team building and creative expression, reinforcing the idea that design can be both purposeful and personal.

The finished space reflects a thoughtful blend of elements. Perkins Eastman contributed a cheerful mural that brightens the room, while Momentum’s bold textiles add color, texture, and warmth. The handmade pillows serve as both functional pieces and symbolic gestures of care, representing the time and attention invested in the project. Together, these elements help transform the common area into a place that fosters positivity and a sense of belonging.

More than just a design update, the project highlights the impact that collaborative, community-focused efforts can have. By bringing together design expertise, quality materials, and a shared purpose, the team was able to create an environment that supports well-being and dignity. It is a reminder that thoughtful design can play a meaningful role in uplifting communities and creating spaces that truly matter.
