An inspiring effort that brings the design community together to work toward a shared goal of “zero waste” while giving materials a meaningful second life. The program highlights the power of collaboration, showing how small, thoughtful actions can lead to a lasting environmental impact.

Zero Landfill collects discontinued and unused specification samples, including textiles, wallcoverings, flooring, and other finishes, and redistributes them through free community reuse events. Rather than being discarded and sent to landfills, these materials are reimagined and repurposed by artists, art teachers, nonprofits, students, creatives, and makers of all kinds. This approach not only reduces unnecessary waste but also fuels creativity, education, and innovation across the local community.

By participating in this initiative, The Senator Group is helping to extend the lifecycle of materials and reduce the environmental footprint associated with design and manufacturing. Supporting programs like Zero Landfill reflects a broader commitment to responsible resource use and circular design principles - where materials are kept in use for as long as possible and waste is minimized at every stage.

Beyond its environmental benefits, Zero Landfill Toledo fosters community engagement and provides valuable resources to those who might not otherwise have access to such materials. It transforms what might be considered surplus into opportunity, empowering individuals and organizations to create something new and impactful.

IIDA’s Zero Landfill truly turns trash into treasure. Together, we can make sustainability both practical and stylish. Programs like this remind us that sustainability is not just about what we create - it is about what we choose to reuse, rethink, and reimagine for the future.
