Our Global Strategy

To us, an inch of solid action is better than a mile of lofty intention

There’s a lot of green washing out there – companies who hide behind statements that show what they intend to do, rather than evidence of what they have done. It was quite easy for The Senator Group to create its first ESG, (Environmental, Social and Governance), Report, because it captured all the things that we have been doing for years – it just hadn’t occurred to us to shout it from the rooftops.

From the beginning, The Senator Group has been underpinned by doing the right thing by the environment, our people and the communities we serve and this remains true to the values we live by today. Our ESG Strategy is compartmentalized into three areas: Designing with Intent, Reducing our Impacts and Building Better Lives.

This structure steers us in reviewing the environmental and social impact of our products and operations and is supported by our strong governance structure.

Our commitment to CDP, EcoVadis and SBT

While we are members of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), we have also committed to EcoVadis - an internationally recognized third party verification that provides reliable sustainability ratings and insights.

While the EcoVadis sustainability assessment evaluates how well a company has integrated sustainability and corporate social responsibility principles into their business, the EcoVadis sustainability scorecard rates performance in the areas of environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.

SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) targets are corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction goals that are aligned with the scale of reductions required to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. These targets guide companies on how much and how quickly they need to reduce their emissions to play their part in combating the climate crisis.

Driven by our people

Although we have an ESG Steering Group that has the responsibility for defining the overarching vision, our ESG initiatives are driven first and foremost by our incredible people, whose values, creativity and commitment shape our sustainability journey. Employees across all levels actively contribute to designing and implementing responsible practices, from reducing waste to championing circular design, to fostering inclusive workplaces and engaging with local communities. Their passion means that our ESG objectives are not only met but are integrated into everyday life.

How our UK recycling division supports the circular economy

We work closely with our international suppliers to feed recycled material back into our own supply chain.

We have invested into a recycling facility that works to support our UK manufacturing sites with their waste management but also works closely with our top international suppliers.

Through our furniture take back scheme, we reclaim products, break these down into their component parts and feed material back to our suppliers by backhauling their inward deliveries. These materials are recycled into their products, many of which we purchase for use in our new products.

The circular economy is key to fighting climate change, which is why we must shift from a linear to a circular model, to make sure society progresses in a way that is environmentally conscious.
